temporary stedelijk 3

stedelijk @ de appel arts centre

Initiated in 1994, the Curatorial Programme of de Appel arts centre offers young emerging curators a condensed package of experiences and skills that can be seen as instruments to enhance the development of their professional career.  As part of their curriculum, the six participants develop a final project, which can take the form of an exhibition, a publication, or even a festival. In the run-up towards their final project, which opens in April of 2012, the current participants of the Curatorial Programme have developed a reading group. In this reading group, six curators share and discuss with the participating audience the questions and issues they are considering with regard to the conception and development of their final project, through the close reading of proposed texts.

The eight-month Curatorial Programme has existed in its current form since 2006, with a reshaped curriculum and an extended tutorial team. It encompasses a dense array of seminars, workshops, excursions (including a three-week research trip to a destination outside Western Europe), practice-related assignments and encounters with artists and art professionals. Each year, six international participants are selected from an overwhelming amount of applicants. For the Curatorial Programme of 2011-2012, the participants are Antonia Alampi (Rome, Italy), Katya Krupennikova (Moscow, Russia),  Qinyi Lim (Singapore), Sanne Oorthuizen (Amsterdam, Netherlands), Alec Steadman (London, United Kingdom), and Ivana Vaseva (Skopje, Macedonia). Ann Goldstein and the curatorial team of the Stedelijk Museum act as tutors and advisors of the Curatorial Programme.
